Top 10 Names for Boy and Girl Puppies
After a great deal of research I think I have found the top ten names for both boy and girl dogs. I have listed them in order according to popularity
BOY
1 Max - this is a tough guy. I picture a German Shepherd when I think of Max.
2 Jake - Jake sounds like a Labrador Retriever that will be a good friend. Who knows what has made this name so popular, but it is a name that has been in the favorites for many years.
3 Buddy - this name makes me think if a medium size dog that will run around and play with you all day. This will be the kind of dog that follows you all day just to be where you are. You know, like a buddy would. I can’t help but think the movie Buddy may have had something to do with the popularity of this name. The dog in the movie was such a good “buddy”; hopefully those who choose this name will have the same luck.
4 Rusty - when I think of the name Rusty, it makes me remember my little red Cocker Spaniel.
5 Harley - this name has to go on a tough guy dog. Why, because if he is a Harley he has a reputation to maintain. I think this is definitely a big dog name, a Ridgeback maybe? I have to think this is a popular name among Harley Davidson lovers. I can’t imagine someone with a Honda or a Yamaha naming his or her dog Harley!
6 Rocky - the name Rocky makes me think of a fast little dog, like perhaps a Cairn Terrier. The movie Rocky helped move this name up the list. It is also the reason I think of a fast little dog when I hear the name. You know, fast little guy, jumping around, dodging punches.
7 Jack - As hard as I try, I keep picturing a Jack Russell Terrier. It’s too easy, but I think it is the perfect name for your Jack!
8 Bailey - this is a little dog name. Perfect in my opinion for a little Poodle.
hat loves to play. Whether it is Frisbee or chasing you though the water. No doubt, you will know if your dog is a Sam!
10 Duke - this is another big dog name. Big dogs, tough dogs, like a Rhodesian Ridgeback. This name mane me think of John Wayne, and no one messed with him either!
GIRL
1 Maggie - I see a little, black Scottish Terrier. This name sounds perfect for a little Scottish girl. Do you think Rod Stewart has a little Terrier named Maggie?
2 Sadie - when I think of a Sadie I think of a mellow dog. She will be just a sweet dog that wants to be everyone’s friend. She would be perfect with our Sam! Sadie sounds like a large dog to me. She sounds like a dog that would love to run through the fields with you, and play Frisbee on the beach. Sadie sounds like a girl that likes to have fun. Labrador Retriever
3 Lady - No doubt about it, Lady and the Tramp. This is definitely a name for a Dalmatian! After seeing this movie could you give this name to any other kind of dog? Well, yes, if your dog is prissy and has no spots, I guess you could!
4 Daisy - now who would not want a Daisy and no, I do not mean Daisy Duke. However, the name Daisy does make me think of a pretty little girl doggie that is always getting into some kind of trouble. Like my Cairn Terrier?
5 Lucy - Well, I love Lucy…it makes me think of a little red haired Poodle. How about you?
6 Coco - Christina Aguilera has named her Bull Mastiff KoKo. To me this sounds more like a little foo-foo dog’s name. You know, one of those sweet little things you put in your purse like a bottle of Coco Chanel?
7 Ginger - any little tiny red haired doggie would make a good Ginger! Kind of like a Sam. You just know when you’ve got one!
8 Sasha - can you say Afghan?
9 Princess - oh, the prissy little girl that runs the house, goes by the nick-named Princess Diva? This has got to be a Poodle!
10 Missy - this is the perfect name for the sweet little girl that jumps up in your lamp every time you sit down. Any kind of lap dog.
Take your time and pick the right name for your little friend…

Uh…Lady from Lady and the Tramp would like a retraction and correction please. She would like to inform the author that she is a prim and proper Cocker Spaniel. She believes the mother of the 101 Dalmation puppies is named Purdy.

You are so right Christina. That is reason my daughter named her cocker spaniel puppy Lady.

I think that Lady probably had a darker side and Disney just didn’t want to let her hang her hair down

Yeah, she hung around with a stud named Tramp!
